Mmmmm beer
03 May, 2005 --- 11:45 a.m.

Life is one big party and I'm just here for the beer...

I used to think that people drinking beer in the bath was just something you saw on TV movies. It didn’t really happen in Real Life. An urban legend.

But last night I was running a bath, and, after I’d put in 10 litres of bubble bath and my rubber duck collection, I discovered that there was a beer in my hand. Actually, there were two beers. I have no idea how or why they got there. But who am I to question the mysteries of The Cosmos, so I figured What The Hey …

I felt so posh, yet in a white trash kind of way. And I liked it.

Anyway, more questions. They're about beer:

3: What is your favourite body of water?Cabin Boy.

Any water that has malt, yeast & hops added to it.

4: How many units of alcohol do you consume in a week? Shannon.

Such a personal question.
These days I only, on average, have one 750ml bottle of home brew a night. (Strength ranges from 4% to around 9%)
But we have a bit of a binge drinking culture over here, so that sometimes gets blown out at weekends, or when friends are over. I like beer, but I also enjoy wine (red/white), whisky, bourbon, vodka, baileys, gin, ethanol, etc. I am toying with the idea of brewing my own spirits.

5: What got you started with home-brewing? Golf Widow.

Coz I’s a cheap-ass, basically.

Well, actually, I’m totally into the idea of creating things myself. And I’d already helped make a baby, so I thought I’d turn my attentions to something else I enjoy, like beer.

My parents used to brew their own beer. It also got used as an alternative fuel source.
One New Years Eve they let me guzzle as much as I wanted. I passed out half an hour later. It was 7:30pm. Ahhh, sweet memories.

I can often get a good buzz going from my beer after a couple of glasses, which is something I no longer really get from commercially brewed beer. My friends and family say they like it. It wouldn’t worry me if they didn’t. Because that would leave more for me.

6: Do you do lager or ale, or both? – Golf Widow

I’m a fan of ales, especially dark beer. But the lagers are also good and, seeing as winter is here already, they will be easier to brew at the colder temperatures. I’m also making my way through my 4.5% ginger beer.
I intend to attempt making Guinness in a couple of brew’s time. I lurve Guinness. After my wife finally gets around to Kicking Me To The Curb and divorcing me, I plan to marry a pint of Guinness. Or one of those lovely Dublin Guiness Factory barmaids. Mmmmm, Irish Gurls. Mmmm, Guinness. Mmmm, Guiness Factory. Mmmm barmaids...Mmmmmmm.

7: Do you make personalized labels for your bottles? – Golf Widow

I did a crappy job of this recently because I had all these different kinds of beers and was finding it hard to work out which was which. But I did it on envelope labels, so they don’t come off all that easy.

This is a giant 6 litre bottle.

8: How much does it cost to ship it to the US? – Golf Widow

I think I’ve got this right .
One 500ml bottle would cost about NZ$14.40 (or NZ$45.31 for 4) and one 750ml would cost NZ$18.23 (or NZ$57.11 for 4). Although it may be classified as a banned “flammable liquid” … :)

Cost of flying me over to enthral you with tales about the life history of the beer? Priceless.
