And then there was(n`t) light...
14 September, 2005 --- 2:47 p.m.

How many telemarketers does it take to change a light bulb?
Only one, but they have to do it while you're eating dinner.

How many engineers does it take to change a light bulb?

I have no idea.
But I do know how many engineers it takes to not change a light bulb: a whole room full of ‘em.

The fluorescent light bulb above my office pod started flickering earlier today.
By 1pm one of my coworkers, an engineer, got so sick of waiting for a maintenance technician to turn up, that he decided to deal to it himself.

He sourced a 5m tall ladder and got two fellow engineers to stand either side and hold onto it while he climbed up.

Another engineer handed him the replacement bulb.

About 30 others stood around watching and shouting out advice on how to access the lighting and replace the bulb.

Then after 10 minutes, when a new bulb and replacement starter didn’t seem to fix the problem, the engineer came down the ladder, defeated, grabbed his telephone and left another message for the maintenance technician.

What a joke.

Oh how I laughed and laughed and laughed …

I’m beginning to think I really am nuts.
I mean, what other kind of crazy person spends $6,000 on new carpet just days before an army of cake-dropping two-year-olds are due to invade their house for their daughter’s birthday?

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I’m not sure, but last night I thought I heard D-Girl say “Oh Shit”.

If this is true, then I might be to blame…

I just spent a weekend having chisels dropped on my head and doors dropped on my feet and various all sorts of annoying cock-ups related to home renovation work and dealing with contractors and, yes, it was a weekend of much swearing.

And I may have taught my daughter her first swear word before she has even turned two.

Oh shit.
